LGOP Deputy Director-General Zheng Wenkai Held Talks with UNDP Administrator Helen Clark

Release time:2015-08-14

On the afternoon of November 1, 2010, during China-Africa Conference on Poverty Reduction and Development, LGOP Deputy Director-General Zheng Wenkai held talks with Administrator of UNDP Ms. Helen Clark. They both exchanged ideas on strengthening future bilateral cooperation in support of the poverty reduction process in African developing countries. Mr. Shu Zhan, Ambassador of the Department of African Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Mr. Jia Jingdun, Director General of China Rural Technology Development Center (CRTDC) of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), and Mr. Huang Chengwei, Deputy Director-General of IPRCC also attended the meeting.

Zheng pointed out that the establishment of IPRCC is a milestone of the bilateral cooperation process. Over the last five years since its establishment, and with the support of the Chinese government and various international organizations such as UNDP, IPRCC has conducted a series of research, training and exchange activities targeted at the developing countries in Africa, which disseminated the highly effective experience of China in poverty reduction and development and achieved substantial results. However, it still needs to take some time for other countries to truly understand the Chinese experience and develop the poverty reduction policies and projects suitable to their own national conditions in line with the reality. The current China-African Conference on Poverty Reduction and Development is a good opportunity to promote the dissemination of Chinese experience.

Helen Clark pointed out several fields in which UNDP hopes to strengthen the cooperation with China, and proposed to formulate better training plans specifically designed to satisfy the needs of Africa through the cooperative framework of “China-Africa Window”.

At the end of the meeting, Ms. Helen Clark and Mr. Zheng Wenkai witnessed the signing of the Letter of Intent on the Establishment of China-Africa Window between IPRCC and UNDP China.
